Xiomara of the Dominican Republic — The Girl Who Cannot Hide What She’s Thinking
Age: 14 Region: Caribbean
Xiomara has a problem.
Her face tells the truth before she has decided whether the truth should be shared.
She has tried to control this.
She really has.
But if someone says something ridiculous, her nose scrunches.
If she doesn't believe you, one eyebrow goes up.
If she's trying not to laugh, her entire face becomes involved in the effort.
Her mother can read Xiomara from across a room.
“Fix your face.”
“I didn't say anything.”
“You didn't have to.”
This seems deeply unfair...
Her dream: To build a life filled with people, laughter, and work that makes someone else's day a little better.
Her wonder: “Why would anyone want a poker face when this one works perfectly fine?”
