Milena of Montenegro — The Girl Who Always Has a Strategy

Milena of Montenegro — The Girl Who Always Has a Strategy

Age: 14     Region: Europe

Milena does not like losing.

She would like this stated accurately.

She can handle losing.

She simply sees no reason to make a habit of it.

Milena loves games—the kind where everybody sits around a table, argues about rules they have all interpreted differently, eats all the snacks, and eventually accuses somebody of cheating.

Usually her brother.

Sometimes correctly.

But Milena's favorite part begins before she ever makes her first move.

She watches.

Who plays too quickly?

Who takes risks?

Who always protects the same piece?

Who gets nervous when they're bluffing?

Her grandfather noticed this when Milena was little.

“You're not playing the board,” he told her once.

“You're playing the people.”

Milena thought this was an excellent idea...

Her Dream: To become a lawyer and use strategy, careful listening, and a very stubborn brain to solve problems that don't have easy answers.

Her Wonder: Is the smartest person in the room the one with the best answer—or the one willing to change it?
