Kirra seems to carry sunshine wherever she goes.

At nine years old, she loves mornings when the light turns everything gold and the air smells of earth, leaves, and flowers warmed by the sun. She notices things other people hurry past—the shape of a seedpod, a bird calling from somewhere unseen, the tiny flowers growing where nobody thought to look.

Kirra loves gathering beautiful things. Not to keep them all, but to study them, arrange them, draw them, and sometimes give them away. A feather might become a treasure for a friend. A fallen blossom might inspire a page in her sketchbook. And a handful of flowers can become something wonderful when she places them together.

She asks questions constantly.

Why does one plant thrive where another cannot?
How does a tiny seed know when it's time to grow?
Why do some flowers return year after year?

Someday, Kirra dreams of becoming a botanist and learning everything she can about Australia's extraordinary native plants. She wants to help protect the landscapes she loves and teach other children to notice the living world around them.

For now, though, she has flowers to gather, pictures to draw, and approximately four thousand questions left to ask before dinner.

And tomorrow?

There will be more.
