Emmie of Washington, USA -- The Girl Who Waits for Them to Answer

Emmie of Washington, USA -- The Girl Who Waits for Them to Answer

Age: 9      Region: North America

Emmie talks to birds.

This is not particularly unusual.

Lots of people talk to birds.

The unusual part is that Emmie waits for them to answer.

"Good morning, Pickle."

Pickle tilts his head.

Emmie tilts hers.

Pickle chirps.

"Interesting."

Her father once made the mistake of asking what Pickle had said.

"He doesn't like your singing."

Her father has never asked again.

Pickle is a cockatiel with strong opinions, according to Emmie.

He dislikes the vacuum cleaner.

He approves of toast...

Her Dream: To become an ornithologist and study how birds communicate and live in the wild.

Her Wonder: “How much are animals telling us that we simply haven't learned how to understand yet?”
