Miriam of Kuwait — The Girl Who Painted Outside the Pot

Miriam of Kuwait — The Girl Who Painted Outside the Pot

Age: 14     Region: Middle East

Miriam was supposed to paint the pot.

This was a very simple instruction.

The pot was on the table.

The brushes were on the table.

The paint was on the table.

Miriam was also at the table.

There really should not have been a problem.

For the first twenty minutes, there wasn't.

Miriam painted tiny blue flowers around the rim.

Then yellow ones.

Then she added curling green leaves between them.

She leaned back.

Pretty.

Very pretty.

Also...

Finished.

Miriam looked at the paint still sitting in front of her.

This seemed wasteful.

So she painted a tiny flower on the wooden handle of one of her brushes.

Then another.

She painted a little blue vine around the cup that held the brushes...
