Leni has never understood why trampolines are supposed to keep you close to the ground.
The whole point, as far as she’s concerned, is to see how long you can stay in the sky.
She jumps until her messy bun is barely a bun anymore, until her shirt comes untucked, and until she’s laughing so hard she forgets to land gracefully. Her flower crown usually survives. Usually.
Leni loves mountains, thunderstorms, ridiculously tall swings, and anything that makes her stomach do that wonderful little flip. She keeps a notebook beside her bed filled with sketches of gliders, hot-air balloons, airplanes, and contraptions that absolutely would not pass an engineering inspection.
Not yet, anyway.
Because Leni has a plan.
Someday, she wants to design aircraft.
Not ordinary ones, either. She wants to build machines that can travel farther using less energy, carrying people across mountains, oceans, and borders while leaving the sky as beautiful as they found it.
Her family sometimes teases that Leni learned to fly before she learned to sit still.
She considers this a compliment.
Her dream: To become an aerospace engineer and design a new way to fly.
Her wonder: “Maybe the sky isn't the limit. Maybe it's where we begin.”
