Lejla collects pieces of all of it.
Old postcards from her grandparents' travels.
Her nana's handwritten recipe card.
A concert ticket from the first time her cousin let her tag along.
Dried lavender from the hillside where her family picnics every summer.
Even the tiny wrapper from a chocolate bar they shared on a train ride.
Her mother once asked why she was keeping an empty candy wrapper.
Lejla looked genuinely confused.
"It isn't empty. It's from the train."
Apparently that explained everything.

Someday, Lejla wants to become a documentary filmmaker.

Right now, she's working on a project about her own town.

The shopkeepers.
The people who have lived there long enough to remember what stood on a street corner before she was born.
She wants to record their voices and their stories—not because they're famous, but because they were there.
And Lejla thinks that matters.
