Araceli of Paraguay — The Girl Who Brings Everyone Home

Araceli of Paraguay — The Girl Who Brings Everyone Home

Age: 6     Region: South America

Araceli is six years old, and her mother has learned to ask one very important question whenever her daughter comes through the door:

“Araceli, what did you bring home?”

Sometimes the answer is nothing.

But not often.

There was the baby bird that had fallen from its nest. The enormous green beetle Araceli was certain looked lonely. The skinny dog who followed her halfway home and stayed for dinner for three days.

There was even a frog.

The frog spent one night in a mixing bowl before Araceli’s mother discovered him the next morning.

They no longer use that bowl for cake...

Her Dream: To become a veterinarian and have a place where no animal is ever turned away because nobody can afford to help it.

Her Wonder: How do animals know which humans are safe enough to ask for help?
