Sometimes one sentence is all it takes. A girl crossing an ocean. A scientist making a discovery nobody believed possible. An old house with a locked room. Suddenly Annelie isn't reading the story anymore.

She's adding to it.

She keeps notebooks everywhere. Beside her bed. In her backpack. Tucked between books on the shelf. They're filled with beginnings, overheard conversations, peculiar names, questions she wants answered, and endings to stories she hasn't written yet.

One notebook contains nothing but descriptions of people she's seen from train windows.

Annelie believes everyone has a story.

Even the old man who feeds birds in the park every morning.

Even the girl staring dreamily at the ceiling when she is supposed to be reading.
