Amihan of the Philippines — The Girl Who Reads Past the Ending

Age: 9     Region: Oceania

Amihan has a problem with endings.

She doesn't trust them.

When a book says THE END, Amihan considers this merely the author's opinion.

What happened the next morning?

Did the dragon ever learn to behave?

Did the girl who sailed across the ocean come home?

And what happened to the horse?

Authors, Amihan believes, leave an unreasonable number of horses unexplained.

So she fixes things.

Amihan keeps a notebook beside her bed where she writes what happens after stories are supposedly finished.

Sometimes she gives characters another adventure.

Sometimes she gives villains another chance.

Once she decided that a particularly unpleasant king should lose his kingdom and open a noodle shop.

He was much happier.

So was everyone else...

Her Dream: To become an author and write stories that make children imagine adventures of their own.

Her Wonder: If every ending can become the beginning of another story, do stories ever really end?
